Company commitment to quality
Lamb Hardwood Lumber, Inc. (LHL) is a family-owned and operated company located 35 miles east of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Lamb Hardwood Lumber, Inc. was established in 1986 by owners Charles and Sandra Lamb. Charles is the president and lumber purchaser, while Sandra does the bookkeeping. Production manager Mark Williams and eight additional employees handle production. Charles and Sandra credit much of their business success to their dedicated employees.
"We feel very thankful to have the people who work for us. They are great, and we just couldn't do it without them. Our output per employee is far above the industry standard. The quality that our guys put out is remarkable," says Lamb. "We believe that a company has to give you a reason to do business with them. Our reason is QUALITY. We pride ourselves in manufacturing what we believe to be the best in quality hardwood mouldings and flooring."
Company product lines and custom work
We sell flooring, mouldings and accessories, plinth blocks, corner blocks, rosettes and lumber. Our company also offers customized laser engraved rosettes. Because LHL can make custom knives for its moulding machine, it has the ability to duplicate any style of trim a customer wants.
Specialty Products: Woodbricks® brand wall covering and modular slatwall system
Lamb Hardwood Lumber, Inc. also has two specialty products which are new to the market. The first is Woodbricks® brand wall covering and the second is a patented modular slatwall system.
Woodbricks® brand wall covering was designed to be a high-end alternative to traditional wall coverings. This product works alone or can be integrated with our modular slatwall system. The Woodbricks® brand wall covering product is currently being tested in exterior applications using cedar and cypress woods which are naturally weather-resistant.
Our modular slatwall system is beautiful on home or office walls, libraries, closets, kitchens or high-end commercial applications. LHL's modular slatwall system is unique, fashionable and elegant looking. It is aimed at homeowners and business people who prefer the warm, natural beauty of wood over the sterile lines of modern commercial products.
Production facilities
Lamb Hardwood Lumber, Inc. is located on five acres of land. We have 3600 square feet of production buildings and over 2600 square feet of dry storage. An outdoor green storage yard holds 300,000 board feet of lumber. Three custom-made dry kilns cycle about every 30 days, enabling us to dry about 50,000 board feet of lumber per month.
Lumber is kiln dried to between 6 and 8 percent moisture content. In 2003, a new 6-head Weinig Unimat moulder and a Weinig Profimat 950 grinder were purchased. Other production equipment includes a Mereen Johnson 312 gang rip saw, a 36 inch Buss double surface planer and a Timesaver wide belt 37 inch sander. Our upgraded equipment allows highly efficient production of flooring and mouldings. Customers can place and pick-up an order in three to six weeks.
Production statistics and markets served
Lamb Hardwood Lumber shipped out 450,000 square feet of finished product last year. With gross sales of $1.4 million in 2003, LHL projects 2004 gross sales will be $1.5 million. Raw materials are purchased in the Northern and Appalachian regions of the United States from concentration yards and from a sawmill located next to Lamb Hardwood Lumber. The company's marketing focus has changed over time from almost exclusively local retail customers to mainly contractor/wholesale accounts in a large regional area. Finished products are now sold to contractors, lumber yards and wholesalers throughout the Midwest region of the United States.
